B Corp Month: Why Purpose Matters in Business

Each year, B Corp Month is an opportunity for businesses around the world to reflect on what it means to operate with purpose — balancing profit with positive impact for people and the planet.

At Corban & Blair, being a B Corp isn’t simply a certification we hold. It is a framework that guides the decisions we make every day — from how and where we manufacture our products, to the artists and makers we collaborate with, and the materials we choose.

This month, we have installed a poster in our Corban & Blair Window Gallery to share a little of that story with our local community. The display highlights what being a B Corp means to us and how those values shape the work we do.

What Being a B Corp Means for Us

B Corp certification recognises businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

For us, that commitment shows up in many ways:

Local manufacturing
We continue to design and manufacture many of our products locally, supporting specialised maker skills and small suppliers that keep creative industries alive.

Thoughtful materials and longevity
We believe in making things that last. Durable materials, repairable products and considered design help reduce waste and encourage a culture of keeping and caring for objects rather than discarding them.

Collaborations with artists
Working with First Nations and other artists allows us to create meaningful products that tell stories and support creative communities.

Environmental responsibility
From recycled papers to carbon-neutral framing using plantation timber, we continually look for ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

Sharing the Story

Our window gallery poster is a simple way of opening a conversation with the community about what responsible business can look like.

Many people pass by our studio every day without realising the network of makers, designers, artists and suppliers involved in creating the objects we produce. The display invites people to pause, read, and understand how thoughtful design and responsible production can work together.

Progress, Not Perfection

Being a B Corp is about continuous improvement. There is always more to learn and better ways to do things. B Corp Month is a reminder that businesses can be powerful contributors to positive change when they consider the broader impact of their decisions.

For us at Corban & Blair, it reinforces something we have believed since the beginning — that well-designed objects, made thoughtfully and responsibly, can connect people, support communities and tell meaningful stories.
